A Graduate Environmental Specialist role supporting water and wastewater projects by identifying environmental risks, coordinating environmental assessments, managing permits and consents, and developing practical mitigation measures.

About the role

We are looking for a Graduate Environmental Specialist to join our environmental team and support the delivery of live water and wastewater projects. Working within a multidisciplinary design and construction team, you will help identify and manage environmental risks throughout the project lifecycle, from early design through construction to completion.

You will be automatically enrolled into our bespoke Early Careers Development Programme; a 12-month scheme designed to enhance your skills, expand your network, and enrich your experience.

What you’ll do

  • Help identify environmental risks throughout the project lifecycle, from solution definition to completion

  • Support project teams to develop practical environmental mitigation measures, considering compliance, safety, cost, programme and social impacts

  • Help plan and coordinate specialist environmental inputs, including ecology, heritage and archaeology, so that activities are completed at the right time and to the required standard

  • Work alongside other specialists to assist with environmental deliverables, including environmental management plans, permit and consent applications, and associated technical reports

  • Work collaboratively with design and construction teams, clients, regulators and other stakeholders to support positive environmental outcomes

What you can offer:

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a directly related subject

  • A basic understanding of environmental disciplines and project risks, such as ecology, archaeology, drainage, contaminated land, landscape and noise

  • Awareness of the planning process and the role of environmental surveys, permits and consents in supporting construction activities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, good organisation and attention to detail, and a collaborative, proactive approach to problem solving

What’s in it for you

In addition to our bespoke Early Careers Development Programme designed to accelerate your growth, we offer a comprehensive benefits package to support your wellbeing inside and outside the workplace.

  • 33 days annual leave plus the option to purchase additional days (maximum 45 days)

  • Private health care and a health cash plan to help manage everyday medical costs

  • Exclusive high street discounts across retailers and gyms

  • Flexible pension contributions matched by employer up to 7%

  • Access to our Early Career Professionals network

  • Internal Development Scheme to support and guide you through your journey to becoming Chartered

  • Tools and resources to support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing

Here, you’ll build a career with purpose—on projects that make a real difference. And you’ll be part of a team that invests in your future.
