Graduate IT Developer role focused on developing, maintaining, testing, and improving internal software systems using .NET and database technologies while supporting users and collaborating on technology projects.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to begin their career within our IT Development team. This role will support the ongoing development, maintenance and enhancement of the Firm’s internal software systems.

Working closely with the Head of IT Development and wider development team, the successful candidate will assist with the development of current and future internal applications, provide frontline support for assigned systems, contribute to software testing and help drive continuous improvements across the Firm’s technology platforms.

The role is primarily home-based, with occasional travel to the Firm’s offices for team meetings, project work and collaboration sessions.

Role Requirements

The successful candidate will hold, or be expected to achieve, a minimum 2:1 degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline from a UK university.

Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of software development principles and a genuine enthusiasm for technology, problem-solving and continuous learning. Whilst commercial experience is not essential, knowledge of modern .NET development technologies and database systems would be advantageous.

The role requires an individual who can work independently when required, whilst also collaborating effectively with colleagues, stakeholders and end users to deliver high-quality solutions.

Duties

  • Assist with the development and enhancement of internal software systems in line with agreed project plans and priorities.

  • Support the reliability and ongoing maintenance of existing systems, responding to issues and outages as required.

  • Provide assistance to colleagues reporting software bugs and support user training where appropriate.

  • Work closely with the development team to provide updates on project progress and identify potential risks or challenges.

  • Assist with software testing and provide feedback to ensure solutions meet business requirements.

  • Research new technologies, software development best practices and innovative solutions that could benefit the Firm.

  • Support the deployment of new systems and enhancements, including attending project meetings and presentations where required.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and procedures.

Skills + Experience

Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and a passion for developing innovative technology solutions.

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • A minimum 2:1 degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline from a UK university.

  • Knowledge of modern .NET development technologies.

  • Working knowledge of database systems such as SQL Server or SQLite.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and implement effective solutions.

  • Good understanding of general IT systems, technologies and common technical issues.

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.

  • The ability to work independently with limited supervision and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • A willingness to learn, develop professionally and adapt to emerging technologies.

Whilst candidates based within Scotland’s Central Belt are preferred, applications from exceptional candidates located elsewhere in the UK will also be considered.
