This entry-level electrical and renewable energy engineering scheme focuses on field operations, system commissioning, and technical fault finding, training recent engineering and technical graduates to install, test, and maintain electrical components, interpret technical drawings, and deliver infrastructure solutions.

THE ROLE
You will support the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and fault finding of electrical systems and associated equipment, while developing your knowledge and experience in a practical and supportive environment.
Working closely with Project Coordination, Technical Design, and Installation teams, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while also contributing to a positive customer experience.
WORKING HOURS
Standard working hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm (7.25 hours per day), although start and finish times may vary depending on business and site requirements.
This role will require occasional overtime and, from time to time, travel to sites to support projects in other locations. Any additional hours worked will be paid in line with the employment contract.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and associated equipment
Assist with fault finding, diagnostics, and technical problem solving under the guidance of experienced engineers
Help with the installation and maintenance of cabling, containment, wiring accessories, distribution equipment, isolators, and control systems
Support the completion of testing, inspection, and commissioning activities in line with current regulations and company requirements
Assist in ensuring all work is completed safely and in line with relevant regulations, standards, and manufacturer guidance
Complete job records, technical documentation, and project updates accurately and on time
Liaise with internal teams to support schedules, materials, and site readiness
Work with the Technical Design Team to clarify drawings, technical requirements, and installation details where needed
Support the installation and commissioning of renewable energy systems and associated electrical components where applicable
Attend sites as required to support project delivery and gain practical understanding of electrical installations
Identify and raise technical issues, missing information, safety concerns, or site risks promptly
Always deliver professional and respectful communication with customers and colleagues
Represent aes professionally on site and in all customer interactions
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Essential
Degree, HND, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline
Good general IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office applications
Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles and electrical systems
Awareness of how electrical systems are installed, tested, and maintained
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to learn quickly and apply technical information in a practical environment
Ability to maintain accurate records and complete documentation carefully
Ability to work well with different teams and build positive working relationships
Problem solving skills and a proactive attitude to learning
Commitment to safe working practices, quality, and professional standards
Desirable
18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification, or willingness to work towards this
Placement year, internship, work experience, or university project experience in an engineering, construction, technical, or operational environment
Awareness of renewable energy systems, including solar PV, battery storage, EV charging, or heat pump related electrical systems
Familiarity with technical drawings, schematics, and electrical layouts
Experience using CAD, project software, or engineering related systems
Interest in developing a long-term career in electrical engineering, project delivery, or renewable energy
