What does this team do?
Our Tax Consulting business provides companies with tax advisory and compliance services, as well as transaction advice. We help our clients make the right decisions on all aspects of their tax with regards to their investments.
You’ll have the opportunity to work within one of the following teams:
Business Tax: It’s our job to help our clients understand and manage complex tax matters. Whichever business tax team you join, you will be given the opportunity to work closely with clients across all industries, on every aspect of their corporate tax affairs, solving their most complex challenges.
Transactions & Investment Funds Tax: We help our clients make strategic and commercial tax decisions, advising upon on all aspects of their investments. From setting up and operating fund structures, buying and selling businesses or property, and throughout the lifecycle of the investment, tax will be at the centre of any investments our clients make.
Indirect Tax: Indirect Taxes relate to every transaction involving goods and services. VAT is the most well-known example but indirect tax also includes customs/excise duties, insurance premium tax and other transactional taxes. We work with our clients to help them manage these taxes. A role in indirect tax will involve advising clients on the goods and services they provide, dealing with legal, economic and market implications for our clients.
Global Employer Services: We help our clients deal with their workforce challenges, looking at incentives and rewards, as well as ensuring companies comply with international employment tax regulations.
Payroll and Workforce Management: We deliver, transform and disrupt across employer payroll and workforce management functions. We partner with businesses to solve their most complex challenges related to how they pay their people, supporting areas such as payroll strategy design, compliance reviews, technology implementations, vendor selection, payroll technology implementation, payroll delivery and project management.
What skills and academic qualifications do I need?
You’ll need to have obtained or be studying towards a minimum 2:1 in any degree discipline and have graduated by September 2026 for the Autumn 2026 intake.
What kind of work will I do?
Join our student programme within Tax Consulting and you’ll get to work on the tax affairs of many companies across a range of industry sectors. We work with many of the world’s largest and most influential businesses, from tech start-ups to public sector bodies; from FTSE 100 and Global 2000 multinational groups to charities.
We’re sure you’ll recognise their names!
We also work with private clients of high net worth, including business owners, private equity firms or international clients.
A role with us will involve a mix of reporting and advisory work. One day you could be researching and writing about tax-related topics, the next getting involved in pricing or deals. The diverse nature of our work means you may be advising the manager of a mobility programme, or helping a business deal with tax authorities. Often, our clients and colleagues will work overseas.
Where will I work?
At Deloitte we recognise how important face-to-face interaction is for your development in a new role. We also understand that our people need flexibility, which is why we operate a hybrid system, with a combination of office and home working.
If you’re in a client-facing role, you might be expected to attend client sites on certain days, while your meetings will be a mix of online and in-person events. Please note your final assessment and induction will also be in-person, to give you the opportunity to network and build relationships.
How will I develop?
You’ll be fully supported with all the training you need, as well as invaluable help from team colleagues. Local, practical training sessions will help you build your network and advance your career. And you’ll be allocated a buddy to help you with your new role, as well as a coach who’ll offer career guidance and development.
You’ll become a well-rounded Tax Consultant, able to get your ideas across clearly and constructively challenge the status quo.
You may also be given the opportunity to study towards one or more of the following qualifications:
The Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) qualification.
Chartered Institute of Taxation (CTA) qualification.
ACA Accounting Qualification.
ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB.)
Customs Practitioner Award and Diploma in World Customs Compliance.
