How you will Energise Our Team 🤝
Valda Energy is investing in a modern data platform built on Microsoft Fabric, transforming how data is integrated, managed and used across the business. We’re looking for a Junior Data Engineer to join our growing Business Intelligence team and help build scalable data solutions that support reporting, analytics and automation.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong technical foundation and a passion for data engineering and software development. You may have experience from a junior commercial role, placement, internship or academic projects, or be a recent graduate ready to take the next step.
Working alongside experienced data engineers, you’ll develop data pipelines, integrate data from multiple systems and build your expertise in modern cloud technologies and data platforms. Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure or the wider Microsoft data ecosystem is beneficial but not essential — we’ll provide support and mentoring as you grow.
The day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Developing and maintaining data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric to ingest, transform and deliver data from a variety of internal and external sources
Building scalable data solutions that support reporting, analytics and business automation across the organisation
Integrating data from APIs, databases, files and other business systems into Valda's modern data platform
Assisting with the design and implementation of data engineering solutions, following established engineering standards and best practices
Troubleshooting data pipelines, identifying issues and implementing improvements to reliability and performance
Supporting the automation of manual data processes, helping improve efficiency and reduce operational effort across the business
Working closely with BI Analysts and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver practical engineering solutions
Producing clear technical documentation for data pipelines, integrations and engineering processes
Contributing to the continuous improvement of Valda's Microsoft Fabric platform, engineering standards and ways of working
Taking ownership of your personal development by learning new technologies, sharing knowledge and developing your data engineering capability
The Spark we're Looking For 🔍
A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics or a related discipline, or equivalent commercial experience
Around 12 months' experience in a data engineering, software engineering or data platform role, or demonstrable experience through university, personal projects or internships
Experience building or supporting data pipelines (ETL/ELT) using Python or PySpark, with an understanding of data warehousing or Lakehouse concepts
Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Services or the wider Microsoft data ecosystem, with a genuine interest in modern cloud-based data platforms
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach and a passion for learning new technologies
Experience working collaboratively within a team, with good communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
