Graduate Marine Consultant role supporting marine environmental planning, consenting, EIA/HRA assessments, research, data analysis, technical reporting and project delivery for major marine infrastructure developments.
Build your marine environmental consultancy career working on some of the most complex and exciting marine infrastructure projects in the UK and internationally. You’ll gain hands-on project experience from day one, supported by experienced specialists who will help you develop the technical, commercial and professional skills needed for a successful career in environmental consulting.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a Marine Consultant (Graduate – Consultant level available) in our experienced Marine Consenting and Environment (MC&E) team, you’ll support planning, consenting and post-consent compliance services for major marine developments. This will include supporting the management, coordination and technical delivery of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Habitat Regulation Assessments (HRA).
You’ll work alongside experienced environmental professionals, contributing to research, data analysis, technical reporting and project proposals while developing your knowledge of environmental legislation, marine consenting and the wider energy infrastructure sector.
Your Impact in this Position
This is an opportunity to learn through real project delivery. From the outset, you’ll contribute to live projects, helping clients understand and manage the potential environmental impacts associated with marine development.
Supported by senior staff and mentoring from your colleagues, you’ll progressively build your technical capability and client-facing experience through hands-on project work, industry events, knowledge sharing and structured learning. As your confidence develops, you’ll participate in client meeting and take greater ownership of your work.
Core Capabilities
Environmental Assessment & Consenting: Developing understanding of EIA, marine consenting and the relationship between infrastructure development and human environment considerations. We will support you to develop this understanding further.
Technical Analysis & Reporting: Experience in researching and managing environmental data is desirable. You will use these skills to contribute to high-quality EIA chapters, technical reports and other project documentation.
Project & Client Delivery: We will expect you to work collaboratively with project teams, developing an understanding of client requirements and contributing to meetings and project delivery, therefore good communication skills are important.
Quality & Professional Standards: You will be expected to produce accurate, well-structured technical work that meets project requirements and our established quality and information management standards.
Learning & Collaboration: You will build your technical, business and professional skills through mentorship, structured learning and practical experience, while sharing knowledge and building relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
You’ll have a relevant environmental degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Geography or a related discipline, alongside a genuine interest in environmental consultancy, marine energy and associated developments and energy infrastructure.
We’re looking for strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills. Confidence using Microsoft 365 is essential, and some knowledge of statistical analysis packages would be useful. Most importantly a curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are essential.
Working Environment
You can be based in Chepstow, Edinburgh or Woking with hybrid working combining office (minimum 3 days per week) and home working. Flexible and part-time arrangements can also be considered. #LI-CM1 #LI-HYBRID
