Sumo Digital is seeking a graduate-level HR Assistant to support HR administration, employee lifecycle processes, recruitment, benefits, payroll support, and general People Team activities within the games industry.

Are you a recent graduate looking to take your first step into a career in HR? We have an exciting opportunity to join the People Team at Sumo Digital on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a broad range of HR activities within a true generalist team. You’ll support day-to-day HR administration and processes while gaining exposure to areas including employee relations, recruitment, learning and development, benefits, and more - all within the fast-paced and exciting games industry.

Responsibilities

The HR Assistant provides accurate, timely and customer‑focused administrative support across the employee lifecycle. Working as part of the People Team, the role supports routine HR processes and helps ensure employees, candidates and managers receive a consistent and responsive service.

HR Administration

  • Completes day‑to‑day HR administration accurately and within agreed timescales, using established processes, templates and checklists.

  • Prepares standard letters, forms and employee documentation for review and issue.

  • Maintains accurate employee records across the HR Information System and supporting trackers, carrying out routine data checks and resolving straightforward discrepancies.

  • Manages electronic filing and document storage in line with data protection, confidentiality and retention requirements.

Employee Lifecycle Processes

  • Supports onboarding activity, including starter documentation, pre‑employment checks, system set‑up and coordination with relevant teams.

  • Processes approved changes to employee details, roles, pay and working arrangements, ensuring the correct information and authorisation are in place.

  • Supports offboarding activity, including leaver documentation, system updates and coordination of required actions.

  • Provides administration for other routine HR processes and annual activity as required.

HR Inbox & Employee Support

  • Monitors the shared HR inbox and responds to straightforward queries in a timely, professional and helpful way.

  • Signposts employees and managers to relevant policies, guidance and resources.

  • Escalates sensitive, complex or unfamiliar queries to an appropriate People Team colleague, keeping employees informed of progress.

Talent Acquisition Support

  • Provides administrative support across the recruitment process, including vacancy set‑up, interview scheduling and candidate communications.

  • Supports the preparation of offer documentation, pre‑employment checks and handover into onboarding.

Benefits & Payroll Support

  • Supports routine benefits administration, including processing joiners, leavers and approved changes, and responding to straightforward employee queries.

  • Collates and checks approved payroll and benefits changes before submission, following agreed controls and cut‑off dates.

  • Works with People, Payroll, Finance and benefits providers to resolve routine administrative queries, escalating exceptions where required.

Team Contribution & Development

  • Works collaboratively across the People Team, supporting shared priorities and contributing to a consistent service.

  • Identifies practical improvements to templates, guidance and administrative processes based on day‑to‑day experience.

  • Builds HR knowledge through coaching and feedback, handles sensitive information with discretion and seeks guidance whenever a request is unclear or presents a potential risk.

What you'll bring with you:

  • An interest in developing a career within HR. A CIPD Foundation qualification, HR apprenticeship or equivalent study is essential.

  • Strong attention to detail and confidence working accurately with employee information, dates, documents and routine data.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with a helpful and professional approach to employees, candidates and colleagues.

  • Good organisation skills and sound judgement, with the ability to prioritise work, follow established processes, handle confidential information and escalate appropriately.

  • Confidence using Microsoft 365 or similar workplace tools, and the ability to learn HR, recruitment and benefits systems.
