SSE Renewables is offering a four-year Hydro Operations engineering apprenticeship where trainees gain hands-on experience maintaining hydro-electric power assets, troubleshooting electrical systems, and supporting renewable energy operations across Scotland.

What to expect

• Learn on the job with skilled craft and engineering professionals who maintain our hydro assets, building essential practical engineering skills.

• Support daily operations, help troubleshoot electrical faults and contribute ideas that improve how our sites run.

• Develop specialist knowledge in electrical engineering, setting you up for a long‑term career in this field.

• Blend classroom and on‑site learning throughout the programme. Some training will take place via block release in Fife, where you’ll stay away from home for several weeks — your travel and accommodation are fully covered.

• Gain an industry‑recognised qualification: a Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering – Asset Lifecycle and Maintenance, preparing you to join our Hydro Operations team working on the largest fleet of hydro‑electric power assets in Scotland.
