This is a Graduate role in Water Consultancy at Tetra Tech, Sheffield, focusing on wastewater modelling, data analysis, and engineering support.

Purpose and scope of the role:

You will join Tetra Tech’s Water Consultancy team in Sheffield, contributing to wastewater modelling, data analysis and engineering tasks across projects that range from local investigations to multi‑million‑pound infrastructure schemes.

Typical day‑to‑day duties include handling and analysing large datasets, developing and maintaining hydraulic and statistical models, producing factual and interpretative reports, and supporting client and stakeholder engagement. You will work in multidisciplinary project teams alongside experienced engineers and modellers, with opportunities for site surveys and field data collection.

We are hosting an in‑person Graduate Assessment Centre on 2nd of June (between 09:30–16:00) in our Sheffield office and are recruiting for start dates throughout Summer 2025. Lunch and breaks will be provided.

Your impact in this position:

In the short term you will contribute to live projects, delivering high‑quality data products and model outputs. Over the medium term you will lead smaller tasks within projects, take responsibility for model development and client communication, and complete relevant professional training.

Core capabilities:

  • Data analysis: Proficient handling and interpretation of large datasets, including statistical treatment and quality assurance.

  • Modelling and hydraulics: Practical experience or academic grounding in hydraulic and wastewater modelling, with the ability to build, test and document models.

  • Reporting and communication: Clear written and verbal communication; ability to prepare concise technical reports and present findings to technical and non‑technical audiences.

  • Software and GIS: Competence with Excel and familiarity with GIS software (QGIS/ArcGIS); experience with bespoke modelling tools or scripting is advantageous.

  • Teamwork and professional development: Collaborative approach, willingness to learn, adaptability and commitment to professional growth including training and chartership pathways.

Skills, qualifications and experience: 

  • Expected: A degree in Civil Engineering, Geography or a closely related discipline. Good communication and basic computing skills.

  • Desirable: Modules or experience in wastewater, hydraulics, hydrology, GIS, statistical modelling or programming; prior site work or internship experience.

Work patterns and locations: 

Based in our Sheffield office with hybrid working. Typical expectation is a mix of office and home working, usually around two to three days per week in the office, with occasional site visits and in‑person team activities.
