This field-based apprenticeship combines on-the-job training and structured coursework to teach candidates how to safely install, test, maintain, and repair electrical infrastructure and equipment across various Royal Mail operational facilities.
What You’ll Do
As an Installation & Maintenance Electrician Apprentice, you will help keep buildings safe and powered.
You will learn how to:
Install electrical systems
Fix and maintain equipment
Test electrical systesm to make sure they are safe
Repair faults when things go wrong
Follow important safety rules
You will work with trained electricians who will guide you every step of the way.
Learn While You Work
This is an apprenticeship, so you will:
Learn on the job every day
Take part in training and study
Complete your coursework and assessments
As you improve, you will be trusted to do more tasks on your own.

What We’re Looking For
You’ll need:
GCSE Maths and English Language at Level 4 (or the ability to achieve this during the apprenticeship)
A minimum of 5 GCSEs in total (Grade 4/C or above), ideally including a Science (defined as Physics, Biology, Chemistry or combined Science) or Technical subject (or equivalent)
A Full UK Driving Licence (this is important as the apprenticeship will involve travelling to various sites)
You don’t need to know everything—we’ll teach you!

What Happens Next
After you apply, we’ll invite you to take a numerical and verbal reasoning so we can see how you work with words and numbers. If you move forward, you’ll be invited to complete a screening (this may be a chat or an online screening form) to learn more about you and answer any questions you have.
If selected at screening, you may join a group assessment where you’ll work with others on simple tasks. If successful, this will be followed by a competency‑based interview to talk about your skills and experiences. We’ll guide you at every step, so you feel ready and confident.
