Supports the engineering development and delivery of data centres through power systems studies, electrical and mechanical design reviews, technical due diligence and commissioning support.

ABOUT RHAELM
RHAELM is the sovereign AI cloud built to accelerate secure AI deployment at scale, combining power and infrastructure pipelines with global capability and local, in-country operations. Headquartered in London, with deployments across Europe and APAC, we deliver ring-fenced compute, networking, and storage infrastructure alongside a sovereign platform and flexible Bare Metal, Kubernetes, and AI-as-a-Service models. Focused on regulated and mission-critical sectors including Government, Defence, Healthcare, and Financial Services, we give organisations sovereign control over their AI infrastructure, platform, and data.

THIS ROLE
AI is driving a major build-out of digital infrastructure, and RHAELM is developing the data centres behind its sovereign AI cloud, with large-scale projects across Europe and APAC. The pace is fast and the projects are large, so graduates get stuck in from day one. You will work on live projects across several markets, join site visits and partner meetings, and produce analysis that feeds real decisions.

As a Graduate Engineer, you will work on the power technical side of our developer-side data centre and power activities, from grid connection, power and energy storage studies to the review of electrical and mechanical designs, site technical due diligence and technical support through delivery.

You will learn directly from experienced engineers who have developed and delivered major infrastructure, with support towards professional accreditation and chartership. You will report to the Discipline Lead (Electrical or Mechanical) and be based in London, with a minimum of three days a week in the office. This role can be filled immediately, and we can be flexible on start date for the right candidate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support studies on grid connection capacity, load profiles, power quality, on-site generation and energy storage, including development and review of single-line diagrams

  • Support the assessment of HV, MV and LV distribution, substations, BESS, UPS, standby generation and resilience strategies such as N+1 and 2N

  • Review designs, specifications, calculations and consultant reports against requirements, codes and standards, and track technical queries to close-out

  • Assess the availability and constraints of power-related assets and works, and contribute to site technical due diligence reports

  • Support technical submittal reviews, design change assessments, factory witness testing and commissioning on live projects

  • Explore and validate emerging power technologies, and contribute to their technical and commercial evaluation

  • Help develop and maintain RHAELM’s design standards, basis-of-design documents and lessons learned across projects and markets

  • Build and maintain calculation tools, technical models and trackers, using AI tools to work faster and to a higher standard

  • Take technical tasks through from start to finish, flag issues early, and work towards IEng or CEng registration

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience after graduation, including graduate schemes, internships, placements or other relevant work

  • A technical project, from study or work, involving engineering analysis, calculation or modelling, with clear conclusions and recommendations

  • Experience working in a team to deadlines

  • Exposure to building services, power systems, energy, engineering consultancy or construction is preferable

  • Exposure to data centres, mission-critical facilities or power networks is helpful but not required

SKILLS

  • Sound grasp of engineering fundamentals in your discipline, such as power systems, thermodynamics, heat transfer or fluid mechanics

  • Confident with Excel, and familiar with or keen to learn engineering software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, IES, CFD tools or AutoCAD

  • Understands what current AI tools can and cannot do, and how to apply them to engineering research, analysis and day-to-day work

  • Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical issues to non-specialists

  • Organised and proactive, taking ownership of tasks and following them through

  • Curious and quick to learn, comfortable in a fast-moving start-up and adaptable across teams, cultures and time zones

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree (2:1 or equivalent) in mechanical or electrical engineering, energy systems or equivalent experience

  • Student or graduate membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IET, IMechE, CIBSE or the Energy Institute), with the intention to work towards chartership
