A Graduate Transport Planner role at Paul Basham Associates, focused on supporting planning and infrastructure projects.

Paul Basham Associates will provide your launching pad to a successful career in Transport Planning; you will be on your way to flourish with the company's continued growth from our existing and future offices.

The role involves working alongside a diverse team of Transport Planners and Civil Engineers, gaining consultancy skills as you assist in a number of projects at any one time as our clients prepare planning applications for new and regenerated development sites.

Dynamic and client-focused, with an eye for detail and excellent analytical judgement; over the 12-18 month programme you will help prepare Transport Assessments and Statements, as well as Travel Plans, which will include input into site layouts, access and parking designs, local and national planning policy, potential development impact on infrastructure, and preparing strategies to support sustainable travel practices for future developments.

As an SME your direct exposure to clients, site visits and meetings will be matched by opportunities for input into the company operations such as marketing, finance and development.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Educated to Degree Level

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Good analytical skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Ability to work on own initiative

  • Previous experience of working with computer-based systems including Microsoft packages

Role Specific Requirements

  • Interest in development planning, the built environment, transport and sustainable travel

  • Desire to work in an SME environment with regular exposure to developers, architects, local authorities and the general public

  • Demonstrate excellent communication and present in a clear and concise manner both face-to-face and through report writing

  • Assess and feedback advantages and disadvantages of development proposals in their local context

  • Analyse with assistance the traffic impact of a scheme and road capacity through use of TRICS Database and modelling software

  • Help identify effective sustainable travel solutions to help manage and reduce vehicle traffic impact

  • Efficiently interpret national and local planning guidance and policy to maximise the potential in new developments

  • Help review architect layouts against relevant design standards, including through the use of CAD and provide high level feedback

  • Complete basic access reviews with visibility splays and vehicle tracking

  • Help prepare for, attend (with seniors) and record internal and client project meetings

  • Co-operate with the workplace’s Quality Management System (QMS) through undertaking administrative activities

  • Request and instruct necessary surveys and third party data (ATC, Parking, Topographical, Highway boundary etc)

  • Carry the company brand and reputation through business development and marketing input

  • Complete the graduate programme and implement skills learnt through the course

  • Be willing to assist with business development needs and attend events when required

  • Assist colleagues in planning and delivering marketing initiatives, including social media posts
