The Graduate Product Design & Insight Analyst supports the Product and Solutions function in understanding user needs, shaping solution experience, and producing clear visual artefacts that communicate how products and solutions are structured, used, and delivered.
The role operates across the full lifecycle from early user research through to internal and external communication. It translates complex technical systems, workflows, and operating concepts into structured diagrams, user journeys, and design artefacts that support product development, programme delivery, and customer engagement.
Working closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Delivery teams, the role contributes to the development of coherent user experiences across both software and hardware systems, while ensuring that product intent and solution structure are consistently and clearly communicated.
Duties and responsibilities
Conduct structured user research activities including stakeholder interviews, observation, and synthesis, to develop an evidence‑based understanding of user needs, behaviours, and constraints
Develop user personas, user journeys, and service workflows that inform product design and solution structuring
Support the design of end‑to‑end user workflows and service concepts, ensuring alignment between product capabilities and operational use
Produce UX and UI artefacts for internal software systems, contributing to the improvement of usability, coherence, and user efficiency
Develop clear, structured visual artefacts including system diagrams, workflows, “marketecture” views, and solution overviews that communicate product and solution intent
Create technical and operational diagrams to support delivery teams, including CONOPS, SOPs, and training materials
Support bid and capture activities through the production of high‑quality diagrams and figures that clearly communicate solution structure and value
Develop internal communication artefacts that explain product strategy, capability evolution, and architectural approach to varied audiences
Work with engineering and product teams to ensure consistency between user experience design, system behaviour, and technical implementation
Support the use and development of internal tooling for user research, UX development, and design artefact production
Develop and maintain a consistent visual and diagrammatic design language across product and solution artefacts, ensuring clarity, coherence, and reuse across bids, delivery, and internal communications
Ensure traceability from user research and insight through to design decisions, linking personas, workflows, and UX artefacts to product requirements and, where appropriate, key user requirements or success measures
Skills and Experience
Degree in a relevant discipline such as design, engineering, human factors, systems engineering, or a related field
Strong analytical capability with the ability to structure ambiguous problems and synthesise information from multiple sources
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear visual and written artefacts
Familiarity with user research methods, persona development, and user journey mapping
Understanding of UX and UI design principles, with experience using standard design tools
Strong visual communication skills, including diagramming, layout, and information design
Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
High attention to detail and commitment to clarity, accuracy, and consistency in outputs
Desirable
Exposure to service design or systems thinking approaches
Experience working with engineering or technical teams on software or hardware products
Familiarity with diagramming standards and modelling approaches
Experience supporting bids, proposals, or customer‑facing communications
Interest in complex operational domains such as maritime, robotics, or autonomous systems
