Graduate Trainee - Economic Crime

Why Economic Crime?

Our Economic Crime Hub brings together all aspects of fraud and financial crime activities across the bank. Our purpose is simply to prevent and detect economic crime, so that we can protect people, families, and businesses and contribute to a more secure society.

As economic crime becomes more complex and interconnected, we are evolving how we identify, assess and manage risk, using data, technology and human judgement to stay ahead of emerging threats.

Your graduation journey

As an Economic Crime Graduate, you’ll gain a strong foundation in how we identify, assess and respond to risk in a fast-changing, technology-enabled environment.

Over the course of this two-year programme, you can expect to:

• Build your understanding of economic crime risks across customers, products and channels

• Build your ability to identify patterns, trends, and potential risks using data and analytical tools, while strengthening your confidence with digital tools, analytics platforms, and emerging technologies.

• Work alongside industry experts to develop your investigation and risk assessment skills

• Gain exposure to key areas including Operations, risk and control management, and data and analytics

• Collaborate with stakeholders across all three lines of defence

• Begin to apply critical thinking and risk-based judgement in real-world scenarios, using concise report writing skills

• Develop your confidence using digital tools, analytics platforms and emerging technologies

Your placements will be tailored to give you a rounded view of the work across the Economic Crime Hub, helping you build the skills, knowledge and experience needed to succeed in future roles. By the end of the programme, you’ll be well positioned to progress into roles such as Economic Crime Investigator, Quality Control & Assurance, with opportunities in other specialist operational roles depending on your strengths and interests.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for our Economic Crime graduate programme, you’ll need: 

• A strong sense of curiosity, with a desire to understand how things work and identify the bigger picture

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify patterns, connections, and risks in information

• Good judgement and attention to detail, enabling you to think critically and make informed decisions

• Confidence working with data, information, and digital tools, or a willingness to develop these skills

• The ability to communicate clearly, collaborate effectively, and build positive working relationships

• An adaptable approach, with an openness to new technologies, ways of working, and continuous learning

• A proactive mindset, taking ownership of your work and actively seeking opportunities to improve processes and outcomes
