About The Role

Are you looking to start your career in asset management, planning and retrofit within the housing sector? As a Graduate Technical Manager - Asset,  you will develop an understanding of how teams collaborate across the organisation and apply this knowledge to support the delivery of planning, technical and retrofit activities. You will gain valuable experience working alongside experienced professionals while contributing to projects that help improve homes and communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative, project management and technical support to the Planning and Technical Manager across planning, design and project delivery activities.

  • Support planning applications, design tasks and the delivery of retrofit and asset projects.

  • Liaise with customers, consultants, local authorities and internal teams, arranging meetings and providing project updates.

  • Build knowledge of housing standards, building regulations, PAS 2035 and modern construction practices, ensuring compliance with current legislation and guidance.

  • Identify potential planning, design and delivery risks and contribute to solutions that improve value and project outcomes.

  • Undertake basic site inspections and retrofit condition surveys, identifying and recording defects under guidance. 

  • Ensure project documentation is accurately completed, checked and maintained in line with audit requirements.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement by supporting the development of effective processes and procedures.

About The Candidate

To be successful in your application for the role of Graduate Technical Manager - Asset, you will have the essential skills and experience for a Level 1 role (please see candidate information pack) and the following role specific skills and experience:

Essential Skills:

  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including local authorities, consultants and customers.

  • Ability to manage and organise complex project information effectively.

  • Ability to absorb and use information to achieve positive outcomes for the team.

  • Ability to meet performance targets and deadlines.

  • Strong teamworking skills with a positive and supportive approach.

  • Creative and flexible approach to work with a willingness to learn and develop.

  • Ability to support and work alongside technical and professional colleagues and consultants.

Essential Experience:

  • General understanding of planning, property development, retrofit principles and the role of housing associations.

  • Experience or ability to support the management of projects, programmes and budgets.

  • Experience or understanding of assessing project risks and viability.

Essential Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the planning and design process.

  • Basic technical and practical understanding of buildings.

  • Awareness of building regulations, planning restrictions and housing standards.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level, holding a BSc or MSc, ideally in a RICS or RIBA accredited subject such as Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Construction, Property, Real Estate, Planning or a similar discipline.

  • Desire to gain retrofit qualifications and Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS) training.

  • Desire to attain a relevant professional qualification and continue professional development.

  • Due to the nature of this role, which includes site inspections and property visits, a full current UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes is required.
