Graduate Planner role within a local council, involving processing planning applications, site inspections, and supporting development and regeneration projects.

Are you an ambitious Graduate Planner looking to gain experience and develop your skills in a bustling Local Planning Authority? If so, this may be the opportunity for you! 

We are aiming to appoint a Graduate, on a fixed term contract, who are working towards becoming chartered, as Assistant Planner/Planner.

The Kirklees Local Plan sets ambitious housing and employment targets. We know we need to deliver new homes and jobs to create the communities of the future and further our potential within the Leeds City Region whilst ensuring the creation of high-quality places. Simultaneously, we need to address the challenges relating to climate change and support the implementation of our ambitious programme for the regeneration of our town centres. 

You will work in our Development Management team, joining our proactive, dynamic and friendly team. The work is varied, working with a wide range of services and partners to deliver the Council’s ambitions for Kirklees, including supporting our exciting regeneration plans for Huddersfield and Dewsbury. 

Ideally, you will already have a degree in planning or related subject or experience in the field. You will be responsible for the processing of planning applications, advertisement consents, listed building applications and other planning matters, undertaking site inspections and consultations within agreed targets, timescales and priorities. 

You will respond to enquiries from applicants, agents and developers, advising on planning and related permissions and the procedures. You will also discuss, consult and negotiate on proposals; prepare reports and formulate recommendations on planning applications.

You will be required to travel across the district to satisfy the duties of the post and a current driving licence is therefore desirable.
