Hymans Robertson’s Actuarial Consulting & Analytics graduate programme supports pension funding, risk assessment and data analysis through consulting or technology-focused analyst pathways.
The Vacancy
At Hymans Robertson, actuarial consulting is at the heart of what we do - combining our analytical expertise with a deep understanding of pensions, benefits and financial risk to deliver tailored solutions for our clients. Whether advising on Private Sector Defined Benefit schemes or supporting Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPS), our actuaries play a pivotal role in helping people to make informed decisions.
We are excited to welcome applications for our Actuarial Consulting & Analytics graduate programme, which is a perfect next step for those looking to launch their careers within this field!
Depending on your skills and interests, you will join either one of our pensions actuarial consulting business units (Actuarial Private or Actuarial Public) as a trainee consultant, or our Insights & Analytics team as an analyst. While these pathways are closely connected, each offers unique opportunities to develop specialist expertise and make a meaningful impact for our clients.
What will your role look like?
As a trainee consultant within our Actuarial Private Business Unit, you'll support a wide range of private sector pension scheme clients. You could find yourself helping trustee boards and sponsoring employers navigate complex issues such as scheme funding, risk management, long-term planning and member security. You'll work alongside experienced actuaries and consultants to analyse data, solve problems and communicate complex ideas in a way that helps clients make informed decisions.
If you join our Actuarial Public Business Unit, you'll work with Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPS) and other public sector clients. You'll help support some of the UK's largest pension funds on matters including funding, actuarial valuations, governance and strategy. This provides a unique opportunity to contribute to decisions that affect millions of members while developing a broad understanding of the public sector pensions landscape.
Whichever actuarial consulting pathway you join, you'll contribute to meaningful client projects from day one. You'll receive structured training, professional support and mentoring as you develop both your technical expertise and your ability to build relationships with clients and colleagues.
For those who align to our analyst pathway within the Insights & Analytics team, your role will look slightly different to a traditional trainee consultant's. You'll become a specialist in the technology that powers our consulting teams, building expertise in programming languages such as R and developing innovative solutions that help us deliver better insights for our clients. Working closely with consultants across the firm, you'll play a key role in transforming data into meaningful analysis and supporting the continued evolution of our technology and tools.
Across all pathways, you'll work alongside experienced consultants and analysts on impactful client and internal projects, developing the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in a modern consulting environment.
We'll also fully support your journey towards qualification with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), providing the tools, study support and encouragement to help you thrive both professionally and personally.
If you enjoy the following, we think you’ll love this opportunity:
Building relationships and communicating with a wide range of people.
Working with detailed data and turning it into meaningful insight
Solving complex problems and finding practical solutions
Collaborating with colleagues in a friendly and supportive environment
Learning new skills and continually developing your expertise
Adapting your approach to different clients, projects and challenges
You don’t need to be joining us from a purely maths, economics or actuarial science based degree programme to excel in this role, as we recognise that any University degree will give you an amazing set of transferable skills that are valuable in any workplace. However, we do require you to have the ability to work well with numbers.
In addition to a competitive salary, we offer:
A flexible selection of employee benefits, so you can choose a package that best matches your lifestyle and needs
A collaborative and supportive work environment where your thinking and ideas are encouraged
On site mental health and wellbeing support
A commitment to helping you develop both personally and professionally, with mentoring opportunities and access to our award-winning learning portal, Aspire
Regular social activities
