A Trainee EPOS Analyst role at Howdens where you support and troubleshoot point-of-sale systems, gaining hands-on experience with enterprise trading platforms and system integrations.

Howdens has an exciting new opportunity for a Trainee EPOS Analyst to join us. This role is an entry level position designed for recent graduates from Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or related disciplines, who are interested in building a career in enterprise and trading systems.

The primary purpose of the role is to support and develop core skills across the K8 EPOS platform and the wider ecosystem of systems that integrate with it, including payment services, digital platforms, and third‑party trading applications used across the depot network.

Working alongside experienced EPOS specialists, the Trainee EPOS Analyst will gain hands on experience supporting point of sale processes, system configuration, integrations, and technical issue resolution within a live trading environment. The role combines operational understanding with technical problem solving, requiring curiosity about how systems interact, how transactions flow through the estate, and how technology enables reliable and efficient trading.

Through structured training, mentoring, and real-world exposure, the successful candidate will develop the ability to analyse EPOS and system issues end to end, support change and improvement activity, and work confidently with both operational users and technical teams. The role plays an important part in ensuring EPOS platforms remain stable, well‑adopted, and aligned with business and trading requirements.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting the K8 EPOS platform and related point‑of‑sale systems, helping resolve incidents and service requests with guidance from senior analysts.

  • Investigating EPOS and transaction issues end‑to‑end across integrated systems (e.g., payments, digital services, third‑party trading applications).

  • Working with depot users, technical teams, and third‑party partners to gather information, test fixes, and support resolution.

  • Supporting configuration and change activity, including testing, documentation, and assisting with depot rollouts.

  • Learning how sales transactions flow through EPOS into downstream systems (finance, stock, ERP) and contributing to continuous improvement.

  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving skills and a genuine interest in how systems support operational/trading processes.

Howdens is the UK’s number one kitchen supplier, providing thousands of products across kitchens, joinery, hardware, and bathrooms. We have over 850 depots across the UK and Europe, with total UK sales reaching £2.3 billion in 2024. Our trade-only model We only sell to the trade as they have the craftsmanship and know-how to fit our products to the highest possible standard. We believe the builder is best placed to co-ordinate projects, supported by local Howdens depots underpinned by a dedicated supply chain and extensive product design and innovation. A framework for success This trade-only model is supported by an in-stock product framework, where builders can expect to get the products they need to complete the job from stock at their local depot. This is achieved by having a dedicated supply chain, efficient warehouse structure, and UK-based manufacturing sites at Howden, East Yorkshire and Runcorn, Cheshire. Entrepreneurial culture The autonomy given to our depot managers is a key element of our business model and success. Every depot is dedicated to helping local tradespeople build their businesses and, within each one, builders can find plentiful stock, design expertise, knowledgeable staff, and the best local price. Community Our belief is that where communities thrive, we thrive. We are passionate about serving our local communities and actively encourage our colleagues to get involved through volunteering, sponsored events and supporting local charities. One of the UK's Best Big Companies to Work For In 2022, over 7,000 of our employees completed the Best Companies engagement survey and, based on their feedback, Howdens ranked 10th in the 2022 Best Big Companies to Work For list, up four places since we last participated in 2020.
