Support coastal, river and drainage engineering projects, including flood protection, erosion control and environmental improvements, through engineering design, site inspections, feasibility studies and construction support.

At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology. Our mission, "Enhancing Society Together," drives us to create a positive impact on the world.

We offer purpose-driven and challenging work on diverse projects, leveraging our 140+ years of expertise. With over 6,800 employees in more than 25 countries, we work together to turn challenges into opportunities and make a real impact on society globally.

About the Resilience Engineering team:

Within the Environment-Resilience-Renewables (E-R-R) group, around 30 engineers and technicians work on water’s edge projects. The team has a strong track record and delivers many ongoing projects in the coastal and fluvial sector, as well as drainage projects. We also work closely with other engineering teams in the company, such as Maritime, Highways and Infrastructure. This gives our graduate engineers broader experience.

The team has the knowledge and experience to deliver all stages of projects, from project management, data gathering and interpretation, specification and supervision of site surveys, optioneering and appraisals, outline and detailed design, maintenance advice, procurement and construction support.

The role:

This role is for a Graduate Civil Engineer working on projects and proposals, mainly in coastal and fluvial engineering within the national and international market. We have an extensive portfolio of work. You will support Project Managers and technical specialists with your own knowledge and practical input.

The role is varied and includes technical and general support for site inspections, feasibility studies, design, construction support, report writing, liaison with external parties, digital tools use and development, document management, BIM, sustainability and carbon.

A good understanding of engineering consultancy practice will be an advantage, as will a broad understanding of the main drivers and risks linked to our clients’ projects. A wider awareness of industry topics such as environmental issues and solutions is also useful.

We are looking for someone who communicates well, learns quickly and works carefully. You should be able to work in a team and, at times, independently. The role requires close collaboration with colleagues in similar teams across the UK and with staff from other Business Lines. You will contribute proactively to help ensure consulting services are delivered to a high standard and meet clients’ needs.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related discipline is essential. A master’s degree is desirable, with a view to obtaining ICE Chartered Member status.

  • Understanding of materials, hydraulic, geotechnical and structural principles is needed for this role.

  • You have good organisation skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • You understand the engineering and environmental consultancy sectors.

  • You have experience of working in a team.

  • You are interested in coastal and fluvial projects.

  • You have commercial awareness and knowledge of industry drivers such as NetZero and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

  • You are willing to travel within the UK, and overseas when needed.

What we can offer you:

Ambitious. Exciting. Lively. Collaborative. Dynamic. That’s how our colleagues describe our company. Want to contribute to Enhancing Society with your expertise? Be part of an open network where you’re connected with the brightest and smartest people and technologies? Join us!

You can look forward to growing your career in a dynamic workplace with development opportunities and support on your career path – this includes mentoring and our graduate programme. We have flexible working models to ensure a balance of family and working life. We also fully support successful applicants to a chartership level (incl. ICE and CIWEM).
