Supports the commercial management of construction projects by managing costs, contracts, procurement, valuations, and financial reporting from tender through project completion.
The Role:
As a Graduate Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in the financial and contractual management of our projects to protect the best interests of the company. The primary responsibility is to ensure that construction projects are delivered within time, budget and meet our contractual obligations.
You will be involved in Contracts from tender stage through to delivery and into final account. Reporting into a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will assess risk and opportunity, limit exposure, recover entitlement and ensure business performance is achieved.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Graduate Quantity Surveyor are outlined as follows:
Complete take-offs for materials and equipment, source quotations and order materials.
Manage and monitor project cost and value.
Assist with the production of Monthly Performance Reports (MPR’s).
Subcontractor procurement (prequalification to contract).
Prepare subcontract documents, enquiries and assessment of quotations.
Place subcontract orders, agreement and certification of subcontract applications for payment, invoice, and final account agreements.
Management of the change control process, risk and value management.
Manage and track project changes, variations, PMI’s etc.
Assess and value project changes, variations and compensation events.
Preparation and submission of interim valuations and payment applications to clients, along with the agreement of final accounts.
Attend risk review, progress and commercial meetings on-site with the Client.
Review contract documents and advise on any issues.
Track the progress and cash flow forecast information.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
The main knowledge, skills and experience required of the Commercial Manager are outlined as follows:
Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
Clear written and verbal communication for interacting with clients, subcontractors, and the project team.
Basic negotiation skills when dealing with subcontractors and suppliers.
Competence in Microsoft Excel and Word (essential).
Attention to Detail.
Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure on multiple projects.
Minimum of a Honours Degree in a relevant Quantity Surveying Qualification.
Full Driving License.
(Ideal but not always required)
Industrial placement or internship in a QS or construction-related role is highly valued.
Site exposure, familiarity with construction sites and site processes, even through short-term site visits or shadowing.
Project work, i.e. university projects that simulate real-world quantity surveying tasks (e.g., cost plans, tender documents) would be a positive.
