This entry-level accounting traineeship within Galloways focuses on providing technical and administrative support to management by executing bookkeeping, reconciling bank and control accounts, assisting with payroll administration, and helping prepare corporate and personal tax returns while studying for formal accounting qualifications (AAT, ACCA, or ICAEW).

Duties and responsibilities

  • Trainee Accountants provide a high level of support to our Managers and Partners on a variety of accounts work for clients and administrative tasks. Trainees will study towards a AAT, ACCA or ICAEW qualification at Galloways, having either recently graduated or completed A Levels.

  • Client care

  • Drafting and sending client correspondence, such as covering letters and emails;

  • Maintaining data security throughout all interactions with sensitive information in accordance with our data protection policies and procedures.

  • Compliance oriented with strong attention to detail;

  • Supporting Client Managers / Senior Client Managers in providing bookkeeping support, including accurately recording financial transactions and maintaining up to date client records

  • Supporting Managers and Partners in preparing personal tax returns, partnership tax returns and companies tax returns;

  • Performing control accounts reconciliations, investigating and correcting any errors;

  • Preparation and administration of client payroll and statutory reports for Managers and Partners to review;

  • Reconciling wages transactions against payroll records;

  • Assisting Managers and Partners with month and year end processes and producing monthly reports;

  • Providing assistance to the specialist tax team with Personal Tax and Corporation Tax work;

  • Proving support and research on policies and procedures in line with legal requirements;

  • Bank reconciliations;

  • Keeping up to date with current legislation and complying with rules relating to post qualification education; and

  • High level of integrity and ethical approach to work.

Requirements

  • Personal effectiveness

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Well organised with the ability to work accurately under pressure and manage work deadlines;

  • High level of logical problem solving skills ;

  • Strong team working skills; and technically proficient in IT, highly competent in Excel and able to use on line accounting software.

  • Business skills

  • Able to confidently build relationships with both clients and the internal team; and

  • Flexible, positive and responsive to client business needs.

  • Minimum of a 2:1 degree or higher, if have a degree qualification

  • Minimum grades of A*, A or B / Distinction*, Distinction or Merit at A levels in relevant subjects, if no further study
