This entry-level civil and structural engineering scheme focuses on nuclear infrastructure design and structural analysis, training recent engineering graduates to perform finite element modeling, coordinate complex design details for new-build nuclear structures, and resolve construction-site queries.

This opportunity is open to those who have less than 12 months relevant experience (excluding placements) and are currently studying or have obtained their degree no earlier than 2026.

You will join the recently created TRACTEBEL entity in the UK, with ambitious goals and exceptional projects. The entity’s mission is to promote TRACTEBEL as a key player in the UK nuclear industry, alongside supporting and working in collaboration with our colleagues across the world.  

As well as several prestigious and innovative nuclear research, operation, and decommissioning projects throughout Europe, TRACTEBEL is also contributing to the detailed design of structures on the Nuclear Island at Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC). As well as our flagship projects, TRACTEBEL also has a pipeline of other opportunities in the nuclear industry to feed our expansion in 2025.

The OPPORTUNITY 

We are looking for motivated and forward-thinking Civil Engineers to work on the design of the Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC) nuclear powerplants, as well as our future pipeline of projects. You will apply your engineering and problem-solving skills to successfully deliver our projects, in collaboration with clients, contractors, stakeholders and our project teams. 

 

The following points indicate some of the key responsibilities and activities that our graduate engineers could be expected to undertake: 

 

  • Learning how to, and completing, structural design of new build nuclear structures, including for accidental situations such as seismic and blast. 

  • Developing skills to perform analysis of structures within commercial FEM packages. 

  • Coordinating and communicating on complex engineering problems between project stakeholders. 

  • Providing analysis and responding to queries originating from construction sites. 

  • Coordinate the transfer of design information to reinforcement detailers. 

  • Developing strong relationships and collaborating with clients and stakeholders. 

 

Your Profile 

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate would meet the following requirements and criteria: 

  • Master’s degree in civil or structural Engineering. 

  • Passionate about working in the engineering and nuclear industries.  

  • Proactive individual who can work collaboratively within a multicultural team.  

  • Agile and self-motivated, with a focus on improving personal and team performance and able to generate innovative outcomes to challenges. 

  • You enjoy new challenges and are keen to learn.  

  • You are willing to take responsibility whilst also wanting to support others within our team. 

 

The following experience is also beneficial: 

  • Programming skills in one or several languages are a plus. 

  • Experience in the use of structural FEM software during your studies.
