Role description 

A Graduate Materials Scientist is required to support a broad range of activities within the Land UK business.

You will support new technology development projects for future products and processes, support Product and Process Development and manufacturing operations in small, medium and high volume environments. Working as part of the Engineering organisation, the role will ensure that our products meet exacting quality and performance requirements.

The role will demand a reasonable amount of travel between the Land UK sites and external suppliers/test houses.

Core duties 

  • Assisting the Engineering Teams in the design and development of new processes, particularly associated with metallic and non-metallic materials, heat treatment, surface engineering and surface coatings.

  • Provide assistance to subject matter experts in materials science advice and support.

  • Good practical skills in a laboratory or engineering environment.

  • Ability to work within a close-knit team and to stringent safety processes.

The Land Team

Equipping the British Armed Forces and international customers with a range of munitions products, from small arms ammunition through to heavy artillery, tank ammunition, warheads, and payloads with projects including the Challenger 3 Battle Tank.

Qualification requirements

As a minimum requirement you must have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree or a pass at Master’s level in the following subjects: Material Sciences or Chemistry.
