Role description

As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the design and development of submarines across the full product lifecycle. Working within the Design function, you will contribute to the creation of innovative engineering solutions that support current and future submarine platforms, including Astute, Dreadnought and SSN-AUKUS.

Working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists, across engineering, operations, supply chain and customer teams, you will be developing your technical expertise while contributing to the successful delivery of complex projects across the full product lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through to build, commissioning, and in-service support.

Core duties

  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models and engineering drawings, ensuring compliance with design standards, quality requirements and configuration control throughout the engineering lifecycle.

  • Develop innovative design solutions for complex submarine systems and structures, supporting the delivery of critical national defence programmes.

  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, manufacturing, supply chain, customer and supplier stakeholders to support design development and delivery.

  • Resolve complex technical challenges within a highly regulated environment through effective problem-solving and stakeholder engagement.

  • Deliver assigned tasks to agreed quality, cost and schedule targets while maintaining clear communication across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities that enhance engineering performance, product quality and project delivery.

Qualification requirements

As a minimum requirement you must have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree or a pass at Master’s level in the following subjects: Mechanical, Structural Engineering, Product Design or other relevant STEM degree.
