Graduate Engineer - Intelligent Mobility

Arup Graduate Intelligent Mobility / Transport Engineer role using data, technology and engineering to develop smarter transport systems, including intelligent highways, EV charging, connected vehicles, traffic management and public transport solutions.

The Opportunity

Within our Intelligent Mobility business our goal is to prepare our clients for a new era of user-focussed mobility and to create environments where more people can enjoy integrated, seamless journeys.  To achieve this, we work with governments, industry and investors to use data and technology to reimagine mobility.  

We focus on operational needs and user requirements, using data analytics, transport expertise, and technology to make journeys more efficient and enjoyable. Our goal is to create safe, sustainable, and efficient transport systems by considering entire journeys across all modes of transport.

Some of the exciting work we do includes:  

• Designing intelligent transport systems for highways and tunnels, optimizing performance through advanced traffic management.  

• Developing transport system specifications and standards, with a focus on traffic control, communications, and information systems.  

• Conducting feasibility studies for zero-emission buses.  

• Leading the largest trial of connected and self-driving vehicles in the UK.  

• Supporting the rollout of Electric Vehicle Charging Points across the strategic road network in England.  

• Designing traffic signal and parking guidance systems to keep traffic moving.  

• Creating electronic payment systems for tolling, road pricing, and smart public transport ticketing.  

• We have been delivering Intelligent Mobility and ITS solutions for over 30 years on projects worldwide. Our services cover the full project lifecycle, from concept and design to testing, commissioning, and ongoing operations.

• Help translate technical recommendations into real-world transport solutions and project deliverables.

• Review project documentation, codes, and standards to support the preparation of reports, presentations, drawings, and sketches.

• Designing intelligent transport systems for highways and tunnels, optimizing performance through advanced traffic management.

• Researching future mobility solutions supporting the development of feasibility studies.

• Capturing and developing requirements for multimodal transportation systems.

Is this role right for you?  

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes: A bachelor's degree in relevant academic discipline, such as Civil Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Geography & Geospatial Science; Mechanical Engineering.  

Skills and experience interested in CAD - AutoCAD or Microstation.

• No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role  

• Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts.
