We are currently recruiting for an Experienced Graduate Bridge Engineer to join our busy and expanding St Albans Bridges and Structures team. You will contribute to bridge design, inspection, assessment, and refurbishment schemes, gaining responsibility and client exposure as you progress toward professional qualification.

Our St Albans office has a strong track record of delivering bridge engineering schemes across the South East, the UK, and internationally. We specialize in providing assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary, and detailed designs for a range of projects.

Our work is underpinned by long-term framework agreements with local authorities and Network Rail, enabling us to deliver high-quality infrastructure solutions that support local and national transportation networks.

Here's what you'll do:

In this role, you will play a key part in supporting inspections, assessments, feasibility studies, and detailed designs for rail and road bridges and associated structures, gaining increasing autonomy as you advance in your career.

Your responsibilities will include preparing calculations, reports, drawings, and technical approval documentation, as well as assisting with structural inspections and reporting, which may involve site visits and night or weekend work when necessary.

You will engage in hands-on design and analysis of road and rail structures under the mentorship of Senior Engineers, collaborating closely with Technicians and multidisciplinary teams to support the delivery of high-quality outputs that meet project scope, timelines, and budgets.

Current projects encompass bridge inspection, analysis, and design commissions for Local Authorities, as well as Structural Assessments of Operational Property and Civil Structures for Network Rail. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in AECOM’s technical practice networks, structured training programs, and mentoring initiatives as you work towards achieving chartered status.

As a Bridge Graduate Engineer you will have the following daily responsibilities:

  • Undertake rail and road bridges and associated structural engineering schemes from inspection and assessment, feasibility through to detailed design.

  • Assist with preparation of technical documentation through to client sign off of Technical Approval documentation.

  • Hands on technical design on road and/or rail structures.

  • Hands on assessment of road and/or rail structures.

  • Structural inspections and reporting.

  • Excellent technical and communication skills both verbal and written.

  • Client liaison.

  • Assist with production of tenders including quality documentation and costings.

  • Assist with Project Management including programme and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.

Come grow with us.

We develop projects from concept through operation providing engineering and construction services for multiyear, multimillion-dollar projects for major rail and transit agencies. Our specialists provide analytical and strategic expertise for every stage of a project
