Working alongside experienced engineers, you will support the planning, design, and delivery of transport and civil infrastructure projects across the UK. Your work will contribute to feasibility studies, concept development, detailed design, and preparation of construction information for a wide range of public and private-sector clients. Support ecological surveys, environmental mitigation, and infrastructure projects while developing expertise in ecology, protected species, and environmental consultancy.About the Role As a result of our ongoing workload with Kier, we are looking for Graduates and experienced Ecologists to aid with project delivery of a large infrastructure project in Bridgwater. This project is situated adjacent to the Somerset Levels with a wide variety of ecological interest including water voles, otters, breeding and wintering birds (including Schedule 1 marsh harrier), bats, great created newts and reptiles.   Your main role will be based on site with duties will including undertaking checks and review of the implemented on-site ecological mitigation, client communications, undertaking surveys from walkovers to protected species surveys, co-ordination with contractors, and reporting. You will work alongside the Ecology Lead to aid with resource planning, risk assessment production and bid work, thereby having an opportunity to increase your commercial skills alongside your technical work.   In addition, the Pell Frischmann ecology team work with a diverse range of schemes and you will be involved with activities on a variety of projects from road, water, rail or housing, throughout the UK. The location of the role will be based out of Bridgwater while on site with your home office in Exeter. Whatever the location some travelling can be expected with stays away from home.  The successful candidate will be responsible for ecological field work and reporting and overseeing the delivery and management of a range of ecological deliverables. Working alongside experienced transport planners and modellers, you will gain hands-on experience in model building, data analysis, forecasting and business case development whilst receiving structured training and professional development support.This role offers exposure to a variety of projects across highways, public transport, active travel and major infrastructure schemes, providing an excellent foundation for a long-term career in transport consultancy. Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Supporting the delivery of transport modelling and appraisal projects across a range of sectors.Assisting with the collection, analysis and interpretation of transport and traffic data.Developing, updating, calibrating and validating transport models under the supervision of senior colleagues.Preparing demand forecasts and future transport scenario assessments.Supporting the production of technical reports, presentations and project documentation.Checking modelling outputs to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry guidance and quality standards.Assisting with the development of business cases, economic appraisals and scheme assessments.Working collaboratively with transport planners, engineers and other multidisciplinary teams.Attending project meetings and contributing to discussions with clients and stakeholders.Developing technical knowledge of transport modelling software, appraisal methods and industry best practice.Supporting innovation through the use of data analysis, programming and digital tools where appropriate. Qualifications, Experience and SkillsEssentialBachelor's degree (or expected degree) in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Mathematics, Geography, Economics, Data Science, Physics or a related discipline.Strong analytical and numerical skills.A full right to work in the UKExcellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail.Good written and verbal communication skills.Ability to manage workload and work effectively within a team environment.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.Enthusiasm for developing a career in transport modelling and transport planning.PreferredMaster's degree in Transport Planning, Transport Engineering or a related field.Knowledge of strategic transport modelling software such as SATURN, VISUM or CUBE.Understanding of public transport and demand modelling principles.Experience of data analysis and programming using Python, VBA, R or similar tools.Awareness of microsimulation software such as VISSIM, AIMSUN or S-Paramics.Familiarity with operational modelling tools such as LinSig or Junctions.Understanding of transport appraisal methodologies and tools such as TUBA and AMAT.Experience of GIS software and spatial data analysis.Relevant placement, internship or university project experience within transport planning, modelling or engineering.Why Pell Frischmann?We are one of the UK's most influential and highly respected firms of infrastructure and built environment professionals.
