Graduate/early-career Embedded Software Engineer developing and testing C/C++ firmware, microcontroller systems, RTOS/bare-metal applications and hardware/software integration.PDSL is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our engineering team at the PDSL Knowledge Centre, Warwick Science Park, Coventry.This role is ideal for a graduate or early-career engineer looking to build hands-on experience in embedded software development, firmware, microcontrollers and hardware/software integration.You will support the development, testing, debugging and validation of embedded systems using C/C++, working across both bare-metal and RTOS-based applications.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain embedded software using C and C++.Support firmware development for microcontroller-based systems.Develop and debug bare-metal and RTOS applications.Implement and troubleshoot I2C, SPI, UART and CAN communication.Support hardware/software integration, testing and fault investigation.Read electronic schematics, specifications and component datasheets.Use debugging tools such as GDB, JTAG and SWD.Use logic analysers and oscilloscopes to diagnose integration issues.Produce clear technical documentation and work collaboratively with wider engineering teams.Skills & ExperienceWe are looking for candidates with:Good knowledge of Embedded C and C++.Experience with at least one microcontroller platform such as STM32, NXP, Microchip, AVR or ESP32.Understanding of RTOS and bare-metal development.Knowledge of I2C, SPI, UART and CAN.Ability to read electronic schematics and datasheets.Familiarity with embedded debugging and laboratory test equipment.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Education & ExperienceA Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.This role is particularly suitable for candidates with 0–3 years of experience.Applications are also welcomed from strong graduates who can demonstrate relevant experience through university projects, final-year projects, internships, placements, research or personal embedded development projects.
