Develops AI-powered software and automation solutions while gaining hands-on experience across engineering, product, and data teams through a structured graduate programme.About hyperexponential (hx)At hyperexponential, we're building the AI-powered platform that enables the world's most critical decisions in a £7 trillion industry, which risks to take, and how to price them. These are the decisions that shape real-world outcomes: whether rockets successfully launch into space, autonomous vehicles make it to market, or communities recover after major storms.Until now, insurance has been making billion-pound decisions using outdated tools. We're changing that. Our platform brings together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision - helping them move faster, act smarter, and take on more risk with confidence.Backed by a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery Ventures, we're scaling globally - already trusted by nearly 50 of the world's largest insurers, with zero churn and billions in premiums flowing through hx.What began as a single product in one market has rapidly evolved into a multi-product, multi-territory platform powering every stage of pricing and underwriting. AI is at the core of what we do - from building the world's first domain-specific AI peer programmer for insurance (think GitHub Copilot with a PhD in actuarial science) to shaping agentic workflows that reinvent how this industry operates. What makes hx different is the people who build it. Here, impact isn't tied to title or tenure; it's defined by the challenges you take on and the discipline you bring. Surrounded by peers who stretch you, you'll do the best, hardest work of your life in a company engineered to endure. If that sounds like you, join us in building what comes next.About the programmeYou’ll join hx as part of a cohort of 8 graduates across our technical teams. This could include areas such as product engineering, AI, model development, platform, security, and other teams building and improving hx’s products. The exact team placements will be shaped around business needs and individual strengths. You’ll be embedded in a technical team, while also getting structured exposure to other parts of hx through time spent alongside our Customer teams and shadowing Central Functions.Across the programme, you’ll build technical confidence, product understanding and commercial awareness. You’ll also complete our Model Development certification, giving you a stronger understanding of the insurance, modelling and pricing context behind what we build. You’ll be supported by experienced engineers and technical leaders, a dedicated mentor, learning and development support, and the wider graduate cohort around you.The programme is designed to help you build the foundations for long-term growth at hx, with the opportunity to apply for full-time roles in the business afterwards. What you'll be doingBuild real technical solutions that solve customer and internal challenges, such as automating workflows, improving processes with AI tools, building small product features, or creating internal automation that multiplies team efficiencyDevelop foundational knowledge of hx's platform and products, learning how insurance pricing and underwriting systems work, how AI agents operate in production, and how engineering teams ship software at paceGain commercial context by working closely with customer-facing teams to understand how product decisions are shaped by real customer needs, technical constraints, and business prioritiesCollaborate across Engineering, Product, AI, and operations teams, experiencing how different functions work together to deliver complex systems and seeing where your interests and strengths naturally alignComplete a final programme project that demonstrates applied learning and problem-solving, showcasing the technical and commercial skills you've developed throughout the programmeBuild confidence working in ambiguity, learning to balance quality, speed, and customer impact whilst developing the self-discipline and judgement needed to thrive in a high-growth environmentWhat you'll need to have doneDeveloped strong technical foundations in Python, with experience writing code for data analysis, automation, small projects, or academic coursework that demonstrates real problem-solving abilityShown curiosity about AI and automation, through experimentation with LLMs, machine learning concepts, AI-assisted development tools, or personal projects that explore emerging technologiesDemonstrated initiative beyond academics, such as internships, personal technical projects, hackathons, teaching or coaching roles, leadership in societies, or contributing to open-source workBroken down technical problems and experimented with solutions, showing evidence of a problem-solving mindset that doesn't give up when the first approach doesn't workCommunicated technical concepts clearly, whether through coursework presentations, project documentation, or collaborating with peers on group work that required explaining complex ideasTaken ownership of outcomes, showing examples of seeing projects through to completion, proactively identifying improvements, or taking responsibility when things didn't go as plannedWe’re open to a range of technical and quantitative degree backgrounds. You might have studied Computer Science, Maths, Physics, Engineering, Data Science, Actuarial Science, or another subject where you’ve built strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You're unlikely to thrive here ifYou prefer highly structured environments with clearly defined tasks and step-by-step instructions, rather than figuring things out and taking ownership of ambiguous problemsYou're not interested in learning how a business operates beyond your immediate technical work, or collaborating across different teams to understand the broader contextYou're uncomfortable engaging with technical topics like data, AI, or software engineering at depth, or don't have genuine curiosity about developing these skills furtherCompensationThe salary for this graduate programme is £40,000 per year. Systems Associate (Graduate/Entry-level opportunity)
hyperexponential
London, UK
Supports and improves the company's internal IT systems, security, automation, and AI-powered infrastructure while providing technical support across the business.About hyperexponential (hx)At hyperexponential, we're building the AI-powered platform that enables the world's most critical decisions in a $7 trillion industry: which risks to take, and how to price them. These are decisions that shape real-world outcomes - whether rockets successfully launch into space, autonomous vehicles make it to market, or communities recover after major storms.Until now, insurance has been making billion-dollar decisions using outdated tools. We're changing that. Our platform brings together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision. We help them move faster, act smarter, and take on more risk with confidence.Backed by a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery Ventures, we're scaling globally. We are already trusted by nearly 60 of the world's largest insurers, with zero churn and billions in premiums flowing through hx.What began as a single product in one market has rapidly evolved into a multi-product, multi-territory platform powering every stage of pricing and underwriting. AI is at the core of what we do: from building the world's first domain-specific AI peer programmer for insurance (think GitHub Copilot with a PhD in actuarial science) to shaping agentic workflows that reinvent how this industry operates.About the SYSSEC teamhxOS is hx's internal operating system. It's the platform every person in the company uses and builds on: devices, meeting rooms, core applications, SSO, AI tools, data infrastructure, security and compliance. The Systems & Security (SYSSEC) team builds it, runs it, and keeps improving it. It'll never be finished. That's the point.hxOS is as much a vision as a current reality. The foundations are solid, day to day runs well because it has to, nothing gets built on shaky ground. The more ambitious layers - federated, AI-native, product-led infrastructure that the whole business builds on - are what the team is building now.About the roleThe Systems Associate is one of the most visible faces of SYSSEC. They're the first point of contact for everything coming into the team, and the work ranges widely: a day might move from troubleshooting a device, to helping a team get more out of a new AI integration, to contributing to a piece of infrastructure the whole company will rely on. What ties it together is ownership: of the service experience, of the queue, and progressively of the platform itself. The career story here is real. This person becomes hxOS's internal expert, the colleague people turn to when they want to understand what's possible, get more out of their tools, or navigate something new. That's a rare combination of technical depth, operational credibility, and genuine impact at the centre of how the company works. This is an Associate/IC1 role, suited to a talented graduate or someone with a year or two behind them. What you'll be doingOwn the front door. Triage, prioritise, route, and keep stakeholders informed on everything coming into SYSSEC, applying an ITIL/ITSM lens to how work arrives, gets handled, and gets resolved. How it feels to reach out to SYSSEC starts and ends with how this person shows up.Improve the service, continuously. Good enough today is a problem tomorrow. Look for recurring patterns, find root causes, and change the conditions that created them, through better templates, self-serve paths, proactive communication, and process work that makes repeat tickets rarer over time.Build things that reduce the work. Scripts, automations, integrations, paved-road workflows. Engineer toil out of the system rather than just processing it, and contribute to the broader hxOS integration layer: connectors, routing logic, self-serve tooling that makes the platform more capable over time.Be a partner to the business. As the internal expert in hxOS, help colleagues get more out of their devices, applications, and AI tools. This isn't ticket resolution, it's helping people understand what's possible and removing friction between them and a platform designed to make them better at their jobs.Contribute to strategic delivery. Around 20% of the role is higher-leverage work: contributing to platform design, supporting infrastructure decisions, and building the technical foundations needed to take on bigger challenges over time. What good looks likeReliable under volume. Owns a queue without being chased, keeps work moving and stakeholders informed, and holds the same standard whether it's a routine request or a change that touches critical infrastructure.Builds rather than just processes. Comfortable writing scripts and configuring automations, thinks in repeatable patterns rather than one-off fixes, and treats "make the next version of this job smaller" as the actual goal.Already AI-native, not AI-curious. Uses AI tools as a natural part of everyday work: triage, documentation, automation scaffolding, first-pass review. Has judgement about where it helps and where it doesn't, rather than reaching for it by default.Figures things out unprompted. Given a problem, researches it, tests it, forms a view, and comes back with a recommendation rather than a question. Comfortable with ambiguity, applies feedback fast, and is honest about what they do and don't know yet.Why hxYou'll become hxOS's internal expert: the person colleagues turn to when they want to understand what's possible, get more from their tools, or work through something new. It's a rare mix of technical depth, operational credibility, and real visibility at the centre of how the company runs, with a clear path from owning the queue to shaping the platform itself. You're joining a generational business at a real inflection point. hx isn't an early-stage bet. We have nearly 60 of the world's largest insurers as customers, exceptional NRR (genuinely rare) at 125%+, billions in premium flowing through the platform, and backing from a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery. You get the rare combination: a varied craft role with the freedom to build, and the strong backing of a company that's already winning.Benefits£5,000 training and conference budget for individual and group development.25 days of holiday plus 8 bank holidays (33 days total).Company pension scheme via Penfold.Mental health support and therapy via Spectrum.life.Individual well-being allowance via Juno.Private healthcare insurance through AXA.Income protection and Life Insurance.Cycle to Work SchemeAdditional Perks:Top-spec equipment (laptop, screens, adjustable desks, etc.).Regular hackathons, lunch & learns, and socials, both remote and in-person, to foster collaboration and creativity.Team breakfasts and lunches, fully stocked snacks and drinks, and a fun, creative office at The Ministry.Access to cutting-edge AI tools and experimentation budget, giving you the freedom to test, learn, and innovate ahead of the market.
