In this role you will report to one of our Software Engineering Team Leads and play a key part in the team working across our Autopilot, Mission Systems and Ground Control Station products, supporting a variety of unmanned platforms. Depending on your background and areas of interest, you could contribute to embedded firmware, mission system applications, guidance, navigation and control, or testing and verification.You will support the wider team as well as having the autonomy to work alone and will be provided with in-house training and on the job training & development.ResponsibilitiesContribute to the development of proprietary and open-source flight control software.Assist those within your team and manage your own output to ensure tasks are completed in required timeframes.Assist with ground and flight testing.Ensure quality is maintained by contributing to peer reviews.Ensure solutions meet requirements, standards and timescales.Communicate effectively with colleagues ensuring difficulties are identified and resolved quickly.Contribute to planning, demos and retrospectives.Perform other related duties as required.Health and SafetyDemonstrate in daily activities a commitment to health and safety in the workplace by always ensuring tasks are performed in the safest possible mannerReport all hazards and incidents that the individual is party to, or observes, in the correct manner.When required or directed, participate in any health and safety training.About YouQualificationsAn upper second-class (2:1) or above BSc or Master Honours degree in an Engineering or Science subject.Skills and ExperienceEssentialExperience in one or more of the following areas of software development:Embedded firmware development using C, Rust or similar.Real Time Operating Systems.Web application development using TypeScript, Go, React or similar.Model based development using MATLAB Simulink or similar.Embedded or application testing & verification using tools such as Python, Playwright or similar.Working collaboratively in a team.Experience of the software development lifecycle.Creating software from requirements, including design, implementation and testing.Proficiency in spoken and written English.DesirableExposure to version control tools such as GitHub or Gitlab.Experience with issue tracking tools such as Jira or Trello.An understanding of development methodologies.Working to coding and/or certification standards.Requirements verification and validation experience.An interest in drones or aviation.Personal AttributesMust be a British Citizen or must have an existing right to work in the UKUK driving licence and ability to commit to occasional national travelAbility to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UKCallen-Lenz is an equal opportunities employer, committed to building an inclusive working environment.
