We’re happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business.About the Opportunity:Amentum is now accepting applications for the role of Engineering Analyst, based in our Manchester office. As an Engineering Analyst you will use computational methods to evaluate the performance and behaviour of components and structures within nuclear reactors, enabling safe generation of low-carbon electricity.  Depending on the problem, this can involve the development and/or application of mathematical, statistical and engineering computer codes taking input from physical replicas and data collected at a client site.  You will handle large amounts of data and interpret the results produced.You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that works together to help our clients and develop business opportunities.  Team members support each other to develop their capability.  As a new team member, your colleagues will support you in developing all the skills required to progress in the role, and in developing your understanding of both the client’s requirements and the relationship between models and reality.We will consider applications from recent graduates and people with several years of experience. Salary will reflect experience.Key Responsibilities:Using finite-element analysis and other methods to model components and structures of a nuclear reactor;Producing high-quality, maintainable software.Discussing and developing solutions with colleagues and customers;Producing high-quality technical reports on the outcome of your work;Checking the work of other team members;Interfacing with customers throughout the lifecycle of projectsHere's What You'll Need:A Bachelor's degree, ideally Master-level degree in a Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Software Development, or a related field (or equivalent);Experience and ability in programming, ideally in at least one of Matlab, Python or Fortran;Strong organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills;Strong analytical skills;Ability to interpret the results of models, relating them to the real worldDesirable:Familiarity with some of the following (we don’t expect familiarity with all):Nuclear graphite and the effects of irradiation;Nuclear power generation, especially graphite-moderated reactors, such as the Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor and hight-temperature reactors;Software development, including software design, testing and version control;Mathematical modelling;Mathematical optimisation, including linear programming;Image processing;Statistics;Finite-element analysis, including ABAQUSOur CultureOur values are built on a strong foundation of safety, integrity, and respect for every individual.
